    Although Dead Again manager Mike Schmidt is an original member of the OIL, he has never attended a draft party. Perhaps not coincidentally, Schmidt has never seriously contended for a title. His team name is derived from his occupation, funeral director. But no one would blame you for confusing it for his team's prospects each year. Like his clients, Schmidt's season is dead before it even begins, making Dead Again the perfect team identity. Don't believe me? Check out his year-by-year results; he hasn't made the playoffs since 2009.

    OIL Countdown: Fact #36

    Dirty Dogs manager Scott Buehre is the only OILer to finish in last place one season, only to finish in first place the following season ("Worst to First"). Buehre's last-place finish in 2015 can be attributed to his poor decision making prior to the 2015 draft.

    Remember, 2015 was the 10-year reunion in Bricktown. The guys partied all night, knowing they had to get on a bus at 0600 to ride to the draft at AT&T Stadium. While everyone else at least got a couple hours of sleep, Buehre set the standard by drinking through the night without ever getting a wink of sleep. When he boarded the bus, the guys, being the blue falcons they are, kept handing Buehre beer the whole way down to D/FW. 

    By the time Buehre drafted the 2015 Dirty Dogs roster, he had been drinking for 24 hours. It's no wonder his draft sucked. But he redeemed himself (and did his liver a favor) in 2016 by not​ drafting drunk, and he rode that sober draft to his first championship.

    What makes the military such a lifelong fraternity is the bonds you forge with those you served with. They are strong, and they last for a lifetime, even if you haven't been in touch. And it's amplified by the strong social connections that fantasy football leagues like the OIL foster. 

    But, from time to time, our fantasy world gets overshadowed by real life, and real life is scary. We've interrupted our silly fake football stories in the past to report that Bruesch had lost his home in a tornado, that former 158 soldier Landrum had died in Afghanistan, and that SECFOR brothers Killman and Tenequer had died.

    ​Now, we're sad to report that Justin Rodriguez, the 12-year-old son of SECFOR brother Vincente Pierre, is battling an inoperable brain tumor. He's currently undergoing treatment at Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center. 

    Pierre served with the 1st Battalion 158th FA (SECFOR) during the 2006 mission that gave rise to the OIL. He's served with hundreds of other soldiers over his 25+ years of service, including during other deployments. And he's a fantastic soldier and person. That's why we're so saddened to hear of the turmoil he's currently going through. 

    KSWO-TV 7 reported on Justin's bucket list, and you can find more information there. His parents are struggling with the costs of Justin's treatment, so friends have created a GoFundMe page on their behalf. Please donate what you can.

    OIL Countdown: Fact #39

    Hangovers manager Adam Duffy was the first OILer to have his team logo designed professionally. Duffy set up a contest at 48hourslogo.com after deciding Cliburn's original design wasn't good enough. The logo includes an homage to hangover-inducing beer as the negative space in the H. The oval shape was inspired by the original Green Bay Packers logo. The shadow is that of Vince Lombardi. For reference, below is the original logo that Cliburn "designed" in Photoshop:
